Ice is likely the culprit for these large cracks in the stone. Slowly creeping into the smallest crevices, water, once frozen forces the rock apart, which over many years slowly breaks the rock into tiny pieces. this image was made in Dinosaur Provincial Park a few weeks ago.[Canon G9]
